I went over to the Minnesota Senate this morning to see the hearing on SF2238. (The posted text is not current, since oral amendments were offered during the hearing.) The bill basically just requires hospitals to disclose their futility policies (if they have one) to the parents of a child for whom the policy might apply. The House and Human Services Committee voted the bill to the floor of the Senate. A related bill HF2797 will now (probably) move to a committee hearing before the House Health and Human Services Reform Committee. I made some wording suggestions to the awkward definition of "futility policy" in the bill. But I have no major issue with the legislation. I have frankly thought that this sort of disclosure (at least for adults) has long been clearly required by the PSDA.
